6 Tips to Rent The Right Forklift

Nowadays, forklifts are indispensable in modern industry in regards to construction, oil & gas, warehouse or retails or maintenance site. They have become so versatile that their applications are varied. They can be large or small, powered or manual, and can lift heavy or light loads. Different types of forklifts are used in many different industries.

What is Forklift?

6 Important Tips to Rent the Right Forklift

1. Lifting Capacity / Load Size

What is the forklift load capacity and What is the maximum load you need to lift?

The forklift load capacity determined as specific which a forklift to carry safely at a specific load center. If the load is not centered at the precise position, then the forklift’s capacity will therefore be reduced. Mean that the higher you are lifting a load the lower the capacity will become. The load capacity of the forklift always needs to be higher than your load. Hence, make sure you have a good enough idea of the weights you intend to lift.

2. Lifting Height

How high you are going to lift the material?

The level of reach is important because it will affect the load capacity as mentioned above. Make sure you have a good enough idea of your typical lift height and the highest point the forklift needs to reach. Normally, you require a forklift that is able to lift high enough (easily more than 4.5m and above) to reach the racking system if you are working in a warehouse. Meanwhile, for a construction site or open space work, usually lifting height up to 4.5m should be sufficient.

3. Access Clearance Height

Do you have any clearance issues to enter any doorway?

This issue is crucial for indoor work where you may face some height restrictions. This issue normally happens when you are working in a warehouse when you need to maneuver your forklift or reach the truck through a tight doorway or low ceiling area. Therefore, you need to know the exact highest point of your forklift when collapse mast to ensure your rented forklift can move through doorways and any openings

You can easily know the highest point of forklift from the brochure, It either collapses mast height of cabin height.

4. Work Site

Are you working in a good ground condition area or rough ground?

The working environment where the forklift operates will influence the type of forklift, fuel type as well as tire selection.

If you going to use the forklift outdoor on uneven surfaces or rough terrain, make sure that the right tire type is selected. There are various types of tires available for forklifts. The most common are solid or pneumatic, but there are also white non-marking tires and cushioned tires – each with their own specific use and suited to certain environments.

The cushion tires are used for the concrete areas normally on the indoor warehouses, and pneumatic tires are good for indoor/outdoor including asphalt, dirt, or gravel.

5. Side Shifter

A side shift is a mechanism within a forklift truck, controlled by the operator, that allows the load carried to be moved to the left and the right. That's means you are able to shift the fork freely from horizontally right to left, without the need to reposition your equipment, you can easily lift any kind of pallet or size of an object by shifting your fork. Especially for tight working space, side shifting is extremely important, remember to ask!

6. Fuel Type

Electrical or diesel?

Each type has its strengths and weaknesses. You have to consider based on the worksite, capacity, and operation hours.

Learn the key differences of Electric and Diesel Driven Forklift

Electrical forklift normally have higher initial investment compared to others type, but its come with a lower maintenance cost, longer lifespan due to no much maintenance needs and the battery are replaceable easily. Another disadvantage of an electric forklift is the load capacity. By the way, the electrical forklift recommended for working indoors such as warehouse which is the lower load required and due to their benefits on size, pollution-free, zero-emission productivity as well as silent operation.

Diesel Forklift designed higher carry capacity and move faster, recommended to use at the outdoor or harsh environment for heavy lifting. The disadvantages of diesel forklifts are emissions, no environment friendly, noise operation and no suitable for indoor use.

If you consider the above condition before renting a forklift, you should be able to rent the right forklift for your task easily.
